Advent Day 17

Jesus Presented at the Temple

Read: Luke 2:21-35

Special verses:  “…for my eyes have seen your salvation that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel.”. – Luke 2:30-32

Discuss:  As parents who followed the Law of Moses, Mary and Joseph took baby Jesus to the temple in Jerusalem to present him to the Lord and give an offering.  Simeon had been waiting for Jesus to come to the temple.  God had already told Simeon that he would get to see the Christ before he died.  How do you think he knew Jesus was the Christ?  What does it mean that the Holy Spirit was upon Simeon?  Simeon said that Jesus would be a light of salvation, but not every person of Israel would be happy that he had finally come.  Do you think that was scary for Mary and Joseph to hear?

Craft:  Make a Three Wise Men hand print painting. Instructions can be found here.
